What is FreeForNon?
FreeForNon is a resource for non-profit and not-for-profit organizations to sigup for free web design. FreeForNon helps non-profits and not-for-profits create a website for only the cost of the domain name and hosting, roughly $60/yr for ad free hosting. FreeForNon will build and setup the website for free.
Who started FreeForNon?
FreeForNon was founded by Columbus Ohio Web Designer, James Wade Weaver. James works as a UX Web Application designer for J.P. Morgan Chase in Columbus, Ohio and has been building websites for several years. He actively blogs about web design and development, recently started a web design forum, and keeps active with his wife and pet goldendoodle, Penny!
Why is FreeForNon free?
FreeForNon was founded for the purpose of giving back to the community. FreeForNon decided to use their web design and development skills as an avenue to help others. They understand that many new non-profits and not-for-profits are small startups with little to no money for marketing. The ability to be online is essential to the growth of a new non-profit or not-for-profit and paying a design company hundreds or thousands of dollars to design and build a website is not an option.
For this reason, FreeForNon started offering qualified non-profit and not-for-profit organizations free web design.
How does FreeForNon work?
First, sign up for our free web design service using the online form. We will review your non-profit or not-for-profit for a free web design. After being accpeted, a FreeForNon representative will contact you as soon as he or she can, usually within 24 hours. Expect an email requesting a time to meet in person (Columbus, Ohio area only) or to chat with your organizations representative on the phone. You must include a security phrase when you signup. If the FreeForNon representative does not provide the phrase or password when they contact you then the person contacting you is not a representative of FreeForNon. The consultation will usually take an hour, but could take up to two. Be sure to have any questions ready for the initial consultation.
FreeForNon will create and build your website, make sure it's secure, set up all of the technical aspects of the site, and then hand the site off to you. The initial consultation will act as a time for the FreeForNon representative to learn about your organization and gather inportant information that we will use in the design of your new website.

faq
1) Does James make any money from FreeForNon?
Yes, but barely. James owns performancehost.net which is where your domain name and hosting will be purchased. Let's say you sign up for a free website design with FreeForNon and you agree to 3 years of service. A typical site will cost $10/yr for the domain and $48/yr for the hosting. So the initial cost is $175 for the first 3 years. PLease note, the $175 pays for the entire first 3 years. If you continue to keep the site up and running it will cost around $60/yr for each year you renew.
Of that $175, James will only make $50. Compare that $50 to his usual web design prices and you'll quickly understand how great of a deal this truly is. His anticipation is to treat you fairly and provide you with a service that will contribute to the overall success of your organization. And hopefully, that will be enough to keep you around for several years past your initial 3. He also anticipates word of mouth advertising for his Columbus, Ohio web design business.
2) Is there a contract?
Yes. Your site and domain name will be purchased through performancehost.net for a period of 3 years. This amount is paid up front. In order for James to design your site you must purchase your domain name and hosting through performancehost.net for a period of 3 years. The cost will typically be around $175.
3) How soon will my site be ready?
Usually, you will have a site within 7 days.
4) What comes with my site?
The site will include a domain name and hosting for 3 years, a single email address (multiple email addresses can be added), a contact form, 3 pages, including a home page and a blog. Your site can be installed with 3 addons. Addons would include a site calendar, site statistics, etc. Any services you request beyond the initial 3 will come with an extra charge. During the consultation your representative will be provided with a list of addons. You will have time to look through the list and do not need to decide which addons you want at the time of the initial consultation. The addons can be added at any time.
5) Who will maintain and update my site?
Each site is created with CMS software and can be maintained by someone other than a web designer. While you're encouraged to maintain the site yourself, FreeForNon can provide maintenance and updates for a nominal fee. FreeForNon charges non-profits a reduced rate of $35/hr for site updates and maintenance. Updates and maintenance can take any amount of time, but you will never be charged more than what your FreeForNon representative has agreed to do up front.
6) Can I see a sample site?
Yes, check out James' web design portfolio.
7) What if I want more than 3 pages and a blog?
You may elect to have more features added to your site now or in the future. FreeForNon charges non-profits a rate of $35/hr compared to their typical rate of $50/hr for businesses and individuals.
8) Why didn't my non-profit qualify for a free web site?
Not all of the non-profits and not-for-profits that apply will be accepted. FreeForNon works very hard to make sure this program isn't taken advantage of and that each non-profit is legitimate. Also, FreeForNon is sometimes not capable of keeping up with demand and must turn down some non-profits due to the amount of applicants.
If you would like your non-profit to be reconsidered for a free web design you may re-apply at any time.
